Introduction To Lifting Platform Handling Vehicles

Feb 20, 2025|

According to the international standard ISO5053/1-1980 Terminology for Motor Industrial Vehicles - Part 1: Classification and Terminology, lifting platform handling vehicles should be classified as lifting vehicles. The lifting platform handling vehicle can be divided into pallet handling vehicle and platform handling vehicle according to the type of its bearing platform; According to its lifting height, it can be divided into two categories: low lifting and high lifting. The carrying platform of the pallet truck is fork shaped, while the carrying platform of the platform truck is flat. The lifting height of low lift trucks is below 250mm, while the lifting height of high lift trucks can range from 1m to 10m, or even higher.

In addition to having the same parameters as fixed platform handling vehicles, lifting platform handling vehicles also have parameters such as lifting height and lifting speed.

The lifting height refers to the vertical distance from the ground when lifted from the surface of the platform to the highest point, measured in millimeters or meters. Some manufacturers determine the lifting height based on the vertical distance between the lowest and highest positions of the platform when marking it. Attention should be paid when selecting.

The lifting speed refers to the maximum speed that the platform can reach when lifting at rated load. In units of m/min or mm/s.

The characteristics of the lifting platform handling vehicle are:

(1) The cargo platform of the transport vehicle has a certain lifting distance.

(2) Beneficial for loading and unloading goods. Low lift trucks can insert forks or platforms into the bottom of goods, pallets, or containers, and complete automatic loading and unloading of goods through lifting or lowering actions. Saves manpower and time in handling and loading operations.

(3) The function of high lift trucks for handling operations has been reduced, mainly used for high-altitude operations, such as repairing and wiping doors and windows indoors. Some high lift trucks have railings on their platforms for lifting repair personnel, tools, and spare parts for high-altitude repair operations.

(4) The lifting capacity of low lift trucks is generally below 3 tons, while the lifting capacity of high lift trucks is below 1 ton, usually only around 300kg and 500kg.
